Week of September 22nd.....

Honors:
We will continue looking at Puritan Poetry and write an Argumentative response over the poems we read. Remember to read The Scarlet Letter for homework. We will have a quiz on Friday and turn in the questions.

AP Literature:
This week, some students will be attending the SAT Prep Classes from 11-1 and the Executive Intern Meeting on Friday. We are going to begin reading and discussing critical literary theory this week. We will be discussing Post-Colonial theory and reading pieces for Said and Achebe. We will continue when we return from Fall Break if need be. You should work on your Poetry Project over Fall Break. The notebook is due on Monday, October 6th.

American Literature:
Students should be preparing for the GHSWT on Wednesday. They should check on the book cases in the front of the school, the lobby, or the cafeteria to find out where they will be testing. Good Luck!

Week of September 15th

Honors:
This week, students will present their Mini-Project on the Puritans. It may take two days, but all students should be ready to present on Monday. We will be working on Puritan literature for the next few weeks. Students should be reading The Scarlet Letter at home. Every Friday, students will turn in their questions and take a quiz. The six quizzes will be averaged for a test grade.

AP Lit:
This week, we will be reading "Hollow Men" by TS Eliot and discussing the connections between the poem and Heart of Darkness. We will use the poem to explore themes of the novella. Students will also turn in their Hypocrisy papers on Wednesday.

Regular American:
This week, we are working on preparations for the Georgia High School Writing Test. The test will be given next Wednesday (September 24th) to all Juniors. This test is a requirement for graduation.

For the Week of September 8th...


Regular American Literature (2nd, 4th, and 7th): 

We are starting to study the Puritans this week. Students will begin reading documents about the Puritans and by the Puritans this week.

Honors American Literature (1st and 6th): 

We will work on a Puritan mini-project this week in the lab. Students are working in groups to investigate certain topics about the Puritans. Students will present their finding next Monday and Tuesday, the 15th and 16th.

Also, the American Dream Essay, which is a test grade, is due Tuesday, September 9th. Students can share, email, or print the essay and bring to class. Essays are due before coming to class or paper copy in class.

On Friday, we will have a reading quiz over Chapters 1-4 of The Scarlet Letter. Students will also turn in their Reading Guide Questions for these chapters at this time as well.

AP Literature and Composition: 


Outside of class, students should still be reading Heart of Darkness closely and working on their Poetry Project (Project #1). Students will continue to have blogs due and reading quizzes on Friday.

This week, we will discuss the concept of hypocrisy and read literature dealing with this concept. Students will then relate this idea to Heart of Darkness through a short response.

Students will also begin a College Application Essay this week. It will be due next week.

For the Week of September 2nd

Homecoming Week!

Regular American Literature will be typing their papers about the American Dream. This is a test grade assignment.

Honors American Literature will begin reading The Scarlet Letter. They have a packet of work to complete as they read and reading quizzes on Fridays over assigned sections of the text.

AP Literature and Composition will be working on their Poetry Project. This project is a test grade. Students will have some time to work in the lab. Also, we will continue with our reading quizzes and blogs each Friday.
